The Full Story
Magic Over Matters was created from a simple realization:
healing rarely happens in isolation.
It happens in conversation.
In community.
In the quiet moments when someone feels seen for the first time.
For Dr. Katie Estberg, the path to this work began long before degrees, certifications, or clinical titles. From a young age, she was drawn to understanding people, why we behave the way we do, how pain shapes our stories, and what helps us find our way back to ourselves.
Her first professional step into this curiosity came through behavioral science. After coaching water polo, she began working as a behavior technician and quickly discovered a deep passion for helping people understand the patterns that shape their lives. That experience eventually led her to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), working with individuals and families across schools, clinics, nonprofits, and community programs.
Behavioral science taught her something foundational: behavior always has meaning. Beneath every reaction, habit, or coping strategy is an attempt by the nervous system to adapt and survive.
Yet over time, Dr. Katie realized that behavior was only one part of the story.
Many people understood their patterns logically but still felt stuck emotionally. Trauma, attachment experiences, and stress often lived deeper in the nervous system than traditional behavioral approaches alone could reach.
This realization led her to expand her training and clinical perspective.
Dr. Katie earned her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) while continuing to study trauma, attachment, and resilience. Her doctoral research focused on the relationship between stress, daily coping strategies, resilience, and attachment style, examining how modern life pressures shape emotional patterns and relationships in caregiver populations.
To deepen her understanding of the biological foundations of mental health, she is also completing advanced training in Clinical Psychopharmacology, studying how neurotransmitters, brain chemistry, and medications influence mood, cognition, and behavior. This training allows her to integrate a comprehensive understanding of both psychological and biological aspects of mental health, helping bridge the gap between therapy and neuroscience.
But alongside the science, another truth continued to emerge:
healing is not only cognitive. It is relational, emotional, and deeply human.
This insight led Dr. Katie to train in and integrate multiple therapeutic modalities, including:
• EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
• Internal Family Systems (IFS)
• Hypnosis and subconscious work
• Energy-based practices such as Reiki
• Psychedelic-assisted therapy approaches such as ketamine treatment
Rather than seeing these approaches as separate methods, she views them as different pathways into the same healing process. Each modality offers a unique way to help individuals reconnect with their own inner resources.
At the heart of her work is the belief that people already carry the capacity to heal within them. Sometimes what we need most is the right environment, guidance, and support to access it.
That philosophy became the foundation for Magic Over Matters.
The name reflects something Dr. Katie witnesses often in her work: when people feel safe, supported, and understood, something extraordinary begins to happen. Old patterns soften. Insight grows. Possibility returns.
Not magic in the supernatural sense—but the powerful transformation that occurs when science, compassion, and human connection come together.
Today, Magic Over Matters is more than a practice. It is a space for:
• therapy and psychological healing
• workshops and educational experiences
• retreats and community gatherings
• creative exploration and personal reflection
Through events, writing, podcasts, and community conversations, Dr. Katie creates environments where people can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and remember that they are not alone in their human experience.
Her approach blends clinical knowledge with authentic presence. She believes healing does not require perfection, and it rarely happens all at once. Instead, it unfolds gradually—through moments of insight, courage, compassion, and connection.
The goal of Magic Over Matters is not to fix people.
It is to help them remember who they already are beneath the noise, stress, and stories they have carried for too long.
Because when people reconnect with their inner wisdom, something remarkable happens.
They begin to see that the clarity, resilience, and strength they were searching for…
was never outside of them.
It was always within.
